Two American tourists have had acid hurled into their faces outside Marseille train station this morning, according to reports.

Two American tourists have had acid hurled into their faces outside Marseille train station this morning, according to reports. 

La Provence reports that the two victims – aged 20 and 21 - were sprayed with hydrochloric acid by an unknown attacker.

They were travelling with two others between Marseilles and Paris when the incident is said to have occurred.

Local media say the acid hit them in the face leaving them with burns.

According to reports, a 41-year-old man was arrested by police and the two tourists were taken to hospital.
