Do your research

First of all decide where you want to go and then start scouting out the most suitable resorts.

Beaches Resorts, which has two locations in Jamaica and one in Turks and Caicos, has a super user-friendly website detailing everything on offer.

The Beaches Resorts website has different sections dedicated to babies, toddlers, tweens, teens and parents, ensuring that no one is left out.

Wherever you go, check carefully that you know what you're getting.  Some websites can be trickier to dig into, so make sure you read the small print and check what the inclusions cover.

Let everyone have a say

It's important to make everyone feel part of the holiday, no matter what their age, so if possible, let people have a say as to what they want to do. For the little ones, a day spent with the Sesame Street® characters could be a dream come true, while the older ones might prefer dressing up for a night at the disco or an afternoon in the Xbox® gaming lounge.

Beaches Resorts have a daily activity schedule so it could be a matter of making selections as you tuck into a delicious breakfast together.

Food for all

Many resorts have endless options when it comes to food. Indeed, Beaches Resorts boasts up to 21 restaurants at each site serving up a mouth-watering mix of cuisines from around the world.

It might be Mexican that swings the vote one night, with a spot of sushi to mix things up the following evening.

Mixed buffets are also a great way of ensuring that everyone's desires are met.

Indulge in some adult-only time

Having day care on hand is an important factor when picking a resort, especially if you have young children.

Each of the Beaches Resorts has a team of professional nannies on hand to help. Day care is provided free-of-charge every day from 9am to 9pm with additional hours available for a fee.

Once you've checked your children in, why not head to the spa for a spot of indulgence?

Beaches Resorts also has adult-only restaurants, where the 'ambiance is made for romance'. Taking things up a notch, candle-lit beach dinners can also be arranged. Last year Liberty X star Michelle Heaton visited the Beaches Resorts Turks and Caicos with her husband and two young children.

She said she and her husband indulged in candle-lit dinners while the children were taken care of. She explained: 'They had their fun, while we had ours – it's a win-win!'

Digital detox

Escaping the stresses and strains of everyday life can be difficult in today's ever-connected world.

To help you switch off from work and the pressures of social media, why not indulge in a digital detox?

Teenagers can learn from example, with phones and laptops turned off. Pack books instead of iPads so there's no way of accidentally sneaking a look at your emails or Facebook.

If it's necessary to check emails or post envy-inducing photos, set 30 minutes aside each day for your digital fix.

Sun protection

The worst thing you can do on a beach holiday is get burned on the first day.

Make sure you're equipped with all the lotions and potions necessary to protect the whole family from the Caribbean's strong rays.

Riemann P20 comes highly recommended, as the clear gel is easy to apply and fares well in the water.  Sunsense Ultra For The Family Roll-On SPF 50+ is another top pick for the same reasons.

Be sure to pack sun hats and a few extra T-shirts to protect your most vulnerable spots.

And in the morning, scout out a good sheltered spot with an umbrella over your sun loungers to use as a base for the day.

Time your flights

It might seem daunting flying long haul with young children but if you time the flights well, it might not be as challenging as you think.

Indeed, Michelle Heaton explained after her visit to a Beaches Resorts destination last year: 'Some people wondered whether we were nervous about the flight to Turks and Caicos from the UK, which takes about 14 hours.

'I wasn't worried about the flight out, because you're flying through the day and everyone's excited about going on holiday.

'The flight home is at night, so the children slept like logs.'
