James Rodriguez trains with Bayern Munich for first time

The likes of Thiago Alcantara, David Alaba and fellow new signing Corentin Tolisso all mingled with James Rodriguez before he got to showcase his skills on the training pitch.

Bayern Munich new boy James Rodriguez began to learn the German giants' way on Thursday as he took part in training.

It was the first time that the Colombia international had trained with his new club since joining from Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal on Tuesday.

And while he may have swapped Madrid for Munich, the 25-year-old looked at ease in his new surroundings.

The likes of Thiago Alcantara, David Alaba and fellow new signing Corentin Tolisso all mingled with Rodriguez before he got to showcase his skills on the training pitch.

Bayern have an option to buy Rodriguez permanently at the end of the loan deal on June 30, 2019. The initial loan will cost them £9m with another £31m on top of that, should they wish to make it a permanent one too.

However, speaking on Thursday it appears that Rodriguez hasn't ruled out a return to his parent club.

'We have some great players and I have to fight for a starting position,' he told a news conference.

'I can play on the left or the right wing as well as a playmaker. I will play wherever the coach wants me to play.

'It is a new life for me. Everything is new, but Munich is a beautiful city. I will try to learn German.

'The door to Real Madrid is still open, but for now I only think about the next two years here. After that we'll see and make a decision.

'It is a new way but no step back. A new challenge.'

Rodriguez will be a member of the Bayern squad that sets off on Sunday evening for their pre-season 12-day Audi Summer Tour to China and Singapore.
