First Look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Star Tours Attraction at Disney Parks

First Look at Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s Star Tours Attraction at Disney Parks

Disney Parks reveals the first look at an addition to the Star Tours ride inspired by Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi.

Disney Parks has released the first look at the newest addition to the Star Tours – The Adventures Continue ride. The update is inspired by Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which features an intriguing new planet called Crait that will be the setting of a major battle in the new sequel. It’s one of many scenes from the saga that fans will be able to experience on Star Tours, the iconic motion simulator ride whose original version opened in 1987 and closed in 2010 to make way for The Adventures Continue in 2011.

Disney’s new Star Tours, now a 3-D motion ride, continued to evolve as an attraction in 2015 with the addition of an adventure taking place on the planet Jakku from The Force Awakens. Parks are following suit with the imminent release of The Last Jedi two years later, adding a scene from the mysterious Crait to the Star Tours experience.

You can check out the first images of the new attraction at the Disney Parks blog. A pair of images show the riders’ perspective of the battle on Crait, and a Starspeeder with R2-D2 aboard and TIE Fighters in hot pursuit. The new adventure begins at Star Tours on Nov. 17 at both Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Bay Lake, Fla. Disney Parks revealed that the Last Jedi scene isn’t the only new Star Tours attraction to be revealed in the coming days, quoting Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back with “No, there is another.”

Johnson described Crait as an “uncharted” mineral planet that “will end up playing a key role” in the plot of The Last Jedi. It is the home of an abandoned Rebel base, and could turn out to be a stronghold for the Resistance. The new adventure at Star Tours will present a version of the battle scene that has been teased in all of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi trailers, which have gradually revealed more of the First Order’s gigantic new AT-M6 walkers. Scenes featuring the planet’s distinctive cracked surface were mostly shot on location in Bolivia.

Disney’s updated Star Tours attraction is likely to see a surge in fans awaiting the release of The Last Jedi, who will get a glimpse at what the battle of Crait will be like by immersing themselves in it. With over a month still to go until the release of the sequel, you have plenty of time to experience the ride before the movie’s release if you can make it to Florida or California. The battle is sure to be one of The Last Jedi’s biggest set pieces, with a good chance to also be a standout attraction of Star Tours.

It remains to be seen how Star Wars: The Last Jedi turns out after a relatively cryptic promotional campaign with plenty of questions still to be answered. But Disney’s plan to have Johnson direct an entire new Star Wars trilogy is certainly a great sign. The addition of Crait to Star Tours isn’t likely to answer many questions about the movie itself, but it’ll probably be a worthwhile update to an already popular ride.
