'I'm a little bit of a procrastinator,' she joked, while speaking at the Television Critics Association.

'I had some things to deal with. I had to get a lot of partying out of my system early in life for about 40 years. You know what I’m saying. I'm good now. I think I'm ready.'

But despite her openness about her plans, Latifah - real name Dana Elaine Owens -  said she wouldn't be providing frequent updates to fans.

The actress is currently thought to be single, after splitting from her choreographer girlfriend of three years, Eboni Nichols, in late 2015.

Speaking about her plans last year, Latifah explained that she wouldn't necessarily open her home to a newborn.

'Maybe I'll adopt a child that's not necessarily a baby. There are a lot of kids that need love out there. I want to be there for somebody. I've got to get all this stuff and give it somebody.'
