We may not all be executives, and many of us wouldn’t want to be. But many would also quite like the cars they drive.

The 3 Series hits the number one spot because it’s such a consummate all-rounder.
There’s a decent amount of cabin space despite the lack of bulk; it’s comfy and fun to drive; equipment levels are good and it has that image and that badge.
We reckon it’s good value as a used proposition too, although we’d be happier if the car’s reliability record was better.

The VW Passat is a worthy choice. It's available with a range of quality of engines and there are plenty of examples on the market today

The cabin is large and well equipped although ride is a bit rough.

If you can forgive its washboard-hard ride, the Audi A4 is a good option. Again, expect to have to go for a more basic spec if you don't want to spend over £10,000
The A4 is relatively expensive, so for the money you have to accept either higher mileage, lower trim or whatever, but we rate the SE trim as the best value anyway.
The engine choice is terrific, build quality ditto, particularly in the cabin, and you’ll be driving an executive car with a premium badge.

At first glance you might not consider his as an executive saloon but it has the space, ride control and performance to match rivals here. Where it lacks is a flash interior, but it's likely to last longer than the competition and suffer from fewer mechanical issues

Which means it’s not exactly a riot to drive, but there’s good space in the cabin, and it’s a very hushed experience.
Don't expect to be caught out with reliability problems; there's a reason why so many minicab drivers use them - they very rarely break down.
